ABOUT
OUR
FOOD
WE GROW ANCESTRAL CROPS OF THE SOUTHWEST...
THAT ARE NUTRIENT-
DENSE AND
RESILIENT...
AND GROWN USING ORGANIC, REGENERATIVE METHODS
It was our dear Farmer Stevie who first proposed growing crops ancestral to his family and to the Southwest Region in general.
Many of our crops are also traditional to Farmer Sam's heritage as a Black Seminole, whose ancestors subsisted on crops such as corn and squash - including Seminole squash, of course!
Because we've chosen to grow crops adapted to this arid climate, they require less water and less maintenance. They also have a long storage life, meaning less waste. These crops are resilient, nutrient-dense, and drought tolerant.
We use organic methods to keep our plants happy and healthy and never any pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers. To enrich our soil we use compost, crop rotation, cover crops, and more! We use these methods despite not being organically certified, learn more about the many barriers to organic certification for BIPOC farmers here.
